My fellow triathletes,

Welcome to the Willamette Valley Triathlon Club, team green website. Hopefully you’ve had a chance to recover from last years’ races and are looking forward to an exciting 2013 race season.

My goals as president are to help you to stay healthy and free of injury, to provide networking opportunities with other area athletes, and to keep you informed of club events and gatherings. We have coordinators for swimming, biking, and running who can help you with training in each discipline and add a side of fun to your training. Through group training, you will be sure to find someone who can help push you through your plateaus as you become a better and stronger triathlete than you ever imagined.

There are four races that the club is promoting this season. While there are many different events to enter locally and in the Pacific Northwest, these are the races we like to encourage strong team representation. We selected races occurring throughout the season with varying difficulties and who have a historic reputation for organizing a great event. We are working on club member discounts and will let you know details at the season Kickoff Party.

1. Heart of the Valley, April 21st in Corvallis
*This race features a Sprint Tri or Du, and two different kid tris as well!

2. Blue Lake, June 9th in Portland
*This race is the NorthWest Club Championship for Olympic distance. Willamette Valley Triathlon Club is the reigning champion of 2012!

3. Rolf Prima’s Tri at the Grove, July 27th in Eugene
*Triathlete Magazine editor’s pick for ‘The Country’s Best Triathlons”, also a USAT sanctioned event!

4. Best in the West, Sept 7-8th at Foster Lake
*This scenic race features 1/2 IM, Olympic, Sprint, and Kid distance races. An added plus is great camping on Foster Lake!

The season Kickoff Party is scheduled for 6pm on Tuesday, March 12th at the Ike Box Coffee Shop in Salem. The party is free for family, friends, or individuals interested in triathlons and/or the club. We will have food, beverages and plenty of raffle prizes, including race entries and gift cards for local business. I encourage you to stop by and meet others who share your interests and passion.

The triathlon season will soon be upon us. So whether you are preparing for your first event or are a seasoned veteran, be sure to stay healthy and finish the race you start. We have been given one body in this lifetime, we should want to develop it to reach its optimal potential and realize the possibilities. See you on the road or in the water!

Go Team Green!
